Mrs. Humm

bhumm@evdio.org

Mrs. Humm teaches 5th grade Math, Science, and Religion at Resurrection. In 2024, she began her second year at Resurrection, but her 20th year as a teacher and her 8th year in the Diocese of Evansville. Prior to coming here, she taught high ability math at St. John the Baptist School.

"I have always enjoyed working with kids and helping them understand new things," Mrs. Humm said. "Math, science, and religion all connect directly to the real world, and helping kids find those connections is so rewarding."

Mrs. Humm has enjoyed starting the Math Olympiad club for 4th-6th graders and being part of the House Aquinas and House Council.

"I also love attending Mass together as a school," Mrs. Humm added. "There is certainly something very special about more than 300 students singing together and praising God."

Mrs. Shumate

Mrs. Shumate teaches 5th grade English & Language Arts as well as Social Studies at Resurrection. She began her first year of teaching in 2024 after serving as a long-term substitute in our 5th grade classroom the previous year!

Fun Fact: Mrs. Shumate moved to New York City right after college, where she worked for an Off-Broadway theater company in Midtown Manhattan!

"I loved it, but I knew I didn't want to raise a family in a big city, so I moved back home to Evansville, where I met my husband, Blake," Mrs. Shumate said.

They have been married 15 years and have four children who attend Resurrection: Anna, Jake, Matthew, and Joseph. When she and Blake started having kids, Mrs. Shumate decided to quit her job in sales to stay home with them. It was during this time that she went back to school to earn her teaching degree.

"I am so glad I did because I feel like I found my calling!" Mrs. Shumate said. "I am so grateful to finally be in the classroom and am so happy to be at Resurrection! Resurrection is very close to my heart. My grandma was once the custodian here, and my mom went to school here. I went to Resurrection as well, as do my kids. I am a proud Roadrunner!"

Mrs. Shumate loves beginning the day by asking students, "How can I pray for you today?" Students raise their hands, and the class prays for whatever is on their minds.

Outside of school, Mrs. Shumate and her family enjoy spending time at Barkley Lake where they camp, boat, fish, canoe, and relax by the campfire. She also loves to read, and always has a good book with her!
