Mrs. Schmitt

mschmitt@evdio.org

Mrs. Schmitt is a first grade teacher here. She began her 16th year in education in 2024 and her 8th year at Resurrection. Prior to joining our team, Mrs. Schmitt taught special education for four years and kindergarten for four years in the public school system. When she moved to Resurrection, she taught kindergarten for six years before moving into her 1st grade role.

Mrs. Schmitt has wanted to be a teacher since she, herself, was in 1st grade. She used to play teacher with her sisters and never changed her mind about her career choice.

"Teaching children how to read and grow in their faith is my favorite part about teaching at Resurrection," Mrs. Schmitt said. "I love the atmosphere here and the feeling of being part of a school family."

She added: "I love hands-on learning and transforming the classroom into fun adventures to support the lessons. I am thankful to have the opportunity to provide students with a Christ-centered learning environment."

Outside of school, Mrs. Schmitt loves watching sports, especially when her sons are playing. Basketball is her favorite sport and she even coaches a Special Olympics basketball team.

Mrs. Schmitt is married to her husband, Jonathan, and they have twin sons, Dax and Dean.

Mrs. Hassler

Mrs. Hassler teaches 1st grade at Resurrection. She began her teaching career at Sacred Heart, where she taught Pre-K for three years. She joined the Resurrection team in 1998. Here, she taught 5th grade for 20 years before moving into her current role as a 1st grade teacher. In 2024, she began her 7th year in one of our first grade classrooms.

"My favorite part about teaching at a Catholic school is that when my students are struggling, worried, or they have something difficult going on in their lives, I have the amazing freedom to stop and pray with them," Mrs. Hassler said. "I have the ability to deepen the faith my students have in God. Helping to open my students' hearts to God is such a beautiful privilege."

Her favorite lessons have been those where she has transformed her classroom into a circus, a glow arena, an operating room, a campsite, or a construction zone.

"Pairing learning with fun is the ultimate duo," she said.

Outside of school, Mrs. Hassler loves spending time with her family, walking with her husband, shopping at TJ Maxx, and creating teaching materials for her online Teachers Pay Teachers store.

She has been married to her husband, John, for more than 30 years, and they have been blessed with three children: Emily, Evan, and Abby.
